First Ever Website

Do you know? The first-ever website which was ever created is still accessible on the Internet?

Click the link below to check it out.

How www was invented

WWW (World wide web) was invented by Tim Berner's Lee, born in London in 1955.

While employed at CERN, Berner's-Lee observed how difficult it was to find and maintain thousands of research. Be informed, that in those days there was no interconnectivity between computers nor the OS supported such feature, Hence to get different information you had to log on to different computers.

In March 1989, Berners-Lee gave managers at CERN a proposal for an information management system that used hypertext to link documents on different computers that were connected to the Internet.

The first web page went live on August 6, 1991. It was dedicated to information on the World Wide Web project and was made by Tim Berners-Lee. It ran on a NeXT computer at the European Organization for Nuclear Research, CERN.

Berner's Lee a Visionary

Berner's Lee didn't try to get the web technology patented and earn benefits. He wanted web technology to be free and open so that its adoption could increase rapidly.

In 1994, Berners-Lee founded the W3C at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It comprised various companies that were willing to create standards and recommendations to improve the quality of the Web.

In 2001, Berners-Lee became a patron of the East Dorset Heritage Trust, having previously lived in Colehill in Wimborne, East Dorset. In December 2004, he accepted a chair in computer science at the School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, Hampshire, to work on the Semantic Web.

Bonus

Do you know that Tim Berner's Lee was born the same year as Bill Gates and Steve Jobs?
